Matchmoving

Here is my free hand match move with snow. I also applied the photo filter with the cooling preset to create a colder look to the original footage.

My Free Hand matchmove with the checkerboard pattern over the top.

Here is my free hand matchmove with a basic box moving through the scene.

My snowy scene laid over the top of my footage works but as I suspected it is hard to see whether the geometery has been overlaid correctly. So I will also upload the shot of the box moving through the scene and the checkerboard pattern overlaid to show that it has all been properly mapped out.

Here is a test I set up of the snow simulation. I will import this into my matchmoved scene and hope it works well.

To make my footage more intresting I had decided to try and make it snowy, so for this I will set up a particle simulation of snow over the top of the geometry with the primary visibilty of the garden geometry tunred off. This will allow for the particle collisions but not render out the shapes making it quick and easy to render out my snow for after effects. I will be doing the snow in maya because it will be easier to set up and have it interact with my scene and be 3D than attempt to recreate it in after effects using particle or snow plugins. I will be using nParticles for the simulation as I have found a nice quick way of creating my desired look.

I have also made a shot with a box moving through my scene casting shadows upon everything, this is to show I have laid everything correctly incase the snow scene doesn’t show this very clearly.

Hand Held Shot

Ok now onto the final shot to be matchmoved, I did a test hand held match move near the beginning of this semmester and found that it worked really well. I have decided to use this but add in some of the objects I hadn’t modelled in maya as well as try and make it more intresting.

Here are the measurements that were taken whilst filming.

Camera: Panasonic HVX200
Camera height from ground: 1.5m
Focal Length: 4.2mm
Film Back: 4.8 x 3.6 mm

Here is my final nodal pan, I have added in a large tower for the center of the castle, kept the moving box to show the depth and shadows. I did some sky replacement using the alpha channel from my matched out scene and cleaned it up a bit using the mask tool in after effects. I like how this has come out and will probably go back to film some more for personal projects :D

Here is the scene so far, I have a basic cube moving through it to show that it has been matched with depth properly. I will upload a version later on where I have added in another object and tried some sky replacement.

Here the my nodal pan with the checkerboard pattern matched out over the top.
